“If we truly believe that North Carolina’s kids are the future, we must make the job of educating them more attractive,” said Governor Josh Stein. “We’ve seen the impact of ideas that work, like Advanced Teaching Roles and the Science of Reading. We must invest in hiring and keeping the best teachers so kids in every classroom benefit.” 

Today Governor Josh Stein kicked off his rural listening session series. He met with business leaders, local elected officials, and other leaders to hear their concerns and discuss priorities for strengthening their communities. Governor Stein also stopped by Flavors on Main in Marion to meet with the owners and learn about their experience.

Today Governor Josh Stein, President Pro Tem Phil Berger, and Speaker of the House Destin Hall announced the formation of a Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education.

“Excellent public schools create meaningful opportunity for every North Carolinian to succeed,” said Governor Josh Stein. “This commission represents a bipartisan commitment and an opportunity to make North Carolina’s public schools the best in the nation.”

Today Governor Josh Stein called on the General Assembly to fast-track a $1.4 billion Critical Needs Budget focused on addressing North Carolina's most urgent needs while lawmakers continue work on a comprehensive state budget.

Today Governor Josh Stein proclaimed March 2026 to be Students@Work Month in North Carolina. Throughout the month, businesses across the state will educate about 25,000 middle school students about jobs and industries across North Carolina. 

Today Governor Josh Stein and First Lady Anna Stein visited Green Magnet Elementary School and read to students in celebration of Read Across America Day. The Governor and First Lady read The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi to a second-grade class and met with students and teachers.
