A Proclamation
Whereas, life insurance provides financial security to families who suffer an unexpected loss, helping surviving family members meet immediate, ongoing, and future obligations; and
Whereas, 90 million American families depend on life insurer products to protect themselves and those they love through all stages of life; and
Whereas, life insurers paid out $4.33 billion in life insurance benefits to North Carolina families in 2023; and
Whereas, North Carolina residents own 5.3 million individual life insurance policies, with coverage averaging $133,000 per policyholder; and
Whereas, life insurance companies invest approximately $202 billion in the North Carolina economy; and
Whereas, there are 417 life insurers licensed to do business in North Carolina, generating approximately 84,500 jobs; and
Whereas, the American Council of Life Insurers and the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors desire to raise awareness of the importance of access to affordable financial protection products;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 2025 as “Life Insurance Awareness Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
