Today, Governor Roy Cooper greeted members of the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association and accepted the Christmas trees and wreaths that will be displayed inside the State Capitol. This is the 43rd year the association has hosted an annual competition to determine which farmers will be asked to send trees and wreaths to decorate the Capitol.
“If you’re looking for the perfect Christmas tree, look no further than North Carolina,” said Gov. Cooper. “I’m grateful for all the farmers and organizations across our state that take part in our forestry and holiday traditions.”
The Governor will be accepting two trees and 23 wreaths provided by Tim and Bonnie Moser of Shepherd’s Way Farms in Laurel Springs, on the border of Ashe County and Alleghany County. The tree inside the Capitol rotunda is 12 ft tall.
“The North Carolina Christmas Tree Association is proud of our hard working, passionate Christmas tree growers who contribute to the economic success of North Carolina,” said Jennifer Greene, Executive Director of the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association. “It is an honor to be able to put our industry’s product in the North Carolina State Capitol.”
“Tim and Bonnie, along with their full-time manager Sydney Robling Herakovich, are excited to once again be providing the Christmas greens to the Executive Mansion for all of North Carolina's enjoyment,” said Tim Moser of Shepherd’s Way Farms.
The North Carolina Christmas tree industry is the second largest in the nation. With more than 850 growers across our state, this industry is important to the holiday season and economy.
The Governor also accepted more than 50 poinsettias from Phil Campbell of Campbell Road Nursery in Raleigh and former Secretary of State Rufus Edmisten.
