Governor Cooper Announces Federal Employment and Training Grant for North Carolina Commerce Department to Support Helene Economic Recovery

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that North Carolina has received approval from the United States Department of Labor for an initial grant of $10 million to provide jobs and training services in areas that were severely impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Governor Cooper Issues Executive Order to Support Child Care and Health Care Needs During Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts

This week, Governor Roy Cooper issued an Executive Order to allow the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to better support state child care and health care needs as the state’s unprecedented response to Hurricane Helene continues.

Today, Governor Cooper traveled to Transylvania and Henderson counties to assess storm damage and recovery operations in Western North Carolina. While in Transylvania County, Governor Cooper met with local elected officials and small business owners before visiting a major employer that suffered damage from Hurricane Helene. In Henderson County, Governor Cooper thanked North Carolina National Guard soldiers at a supplies warehouse before touring Fletcher to survey damage and thank volunteers.

Governor Cooper Surveys Storm Damage in Madison County, Joins EPA Administrator Michael Regan to Assess Water Infrastructure in Haywood and Buncombe Counties

Today, Governor Roy Cooper traveled to Marshall in Madison County on Thursday morning where he was joined by Mayor Aaron Haynie as well as FEMA and state officials to survey storm damage. Following this visit, the Governor joined EPA Administrator Michael Regan to assess water infrastructure damage and discuss federal support to rebuild water systems in Western North Carolina.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper held a briefing with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to provide updates on North Carolina’s unprecedented response to Hurricane Helene. They were joined by Adjutant General of the North Carolina National Guard Major General Todd Hunt, North Carolina Director of Emergency Management Will Ray, NCDOT Secretary Joey Hopkins, NCDHHS Secretary Kody Kinsley and NCDEQ Secretary Mary Penny Kelley to share an update as response and recovery operations continue in Western North Carolina.

Physician Staffing Firm Expands to Wake County with 155 New Jobs and $7 Million Investment in Raleigh

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced Weatherby Healthcare, Inc. a medical staffing company, will add 155 jobs to Wake County. The company will invest more than $7.6 million to expand its operations in the City of Raleigh.“Weatherby has made a great decision to reinvest in North Carolina,” said Governor Cooper. “Wake County sits in the heart of our state and is the home of an international airport and a highly educated workforce, making it an ideal location for corporate businesses.”
