Today, Governor Roy Cooper appointed Eddie Buffaloe to lead the Department of Public Safety as Secretary.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper signed an Executive Order providing flexibility for certain law enforcement training classes to continue operating during the pandemic and ensure continuity in the training for current and new law enforcement in North Carolina.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that Casandra Skinner Hoekstra will serve as Interim Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS).

Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks today announced his plans to retire from state service on August 1. Governor Roy Cooper appointed Hooks on January 5, 2017, to serve as Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and as the State Homeland Security Advisor. 

Today, Governor Roy Cooper granted a Pardon of Innocence for Charles Ray Finch of Wilson, who was convicted of a crime he did not commit. Finch’s pardon application was thoroughly reviewed by the Office of Executive Clemency, the Office of the General Counsel and the Governor.

Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed June 4 as Gun Violence Awareness Day in North Carolina to raise awareness about and honor the lives of those we have lost to gun violence. 

Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed May 2-8 as Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Week in North Carolina, in recognition of the essential public service provided by employees in the state’s prison system. 

Utility crews continued work Sunday to restore power to about 80,000 customers who were remaining without power after a freezing rain event that toppled trees and power lines in counties along the Virginia border and in the Triad area.

Snowfall amounts from a dusting to five inches were reported across North Carolina this morning, leaving hazardous road conditions in some northern areas with greater snow accumulations.
