Last week, 17 individuals and three organizations representing 20 counties received North Carolina’s highest award for volunteer service, the Governor’s Medallion Award. The award is presented annually by the N.C. Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week at Annie H. Snipes Academy of Arts & Design in Wilmington as part of “The Year of Public Schools” education tour. The Governor was joined by teachers, students, local and state education leaders and local elected officials as he highlighted the outstanding work being done at Annie H.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that the State is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Daniel Williams, age 22.On May 7, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call concerning a motor vehicle accident near 972 Sanderfer Road in Bunnlevel, North Carolina. Upon arriving at the scene, EMS and Deputies discovered the driver, Mr. Daniel Williams, deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that the State is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the assault of Evernell Pittman, age 72.On January 2, 2020, Mrs. Pittman was leaving a restaurant on East Vernon Avenue in Kinston, when an unknown suspect violently attacked her with a metal baseball bat. The assault left her with a severe brain injury.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that the State is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Terry Allred, age 33.On January 14, 2017, at 3:21 a.m., patrol officers responded to the Grab-N-Go gas station located at 637 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Greensboro. Upon arrival, officers located Terry Allred, suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. Allred was transported to a hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
Communities across the state continue to experience the life-changing impacts of Medicaid expansion as the state surpasses 450,000 North Carolinians signed up and more than one million prescriptions covered. The milestone means three-fourths of those eligible for expansion have now gained coverage.

Today, Governor Cooper and Democratic legislative leaders held a press conference outlining new legislation that would place a moratorium on more taxpayer-funded private school vouchers until our public schools are fully funded. The Governor was joined by Rep. Robert Reives, Sen. Dan Blue, Democratic legislators and public education advocates.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced three appointments to the North Carolina District Court.“These three judges have served their communities well and bring a variety of experience to their new positions,” said Governor Cooper. “I am grateful for their willingness to step up and for their dedication to the people of North Carolina.”
