To make sure North Carolinians have the resources they need to recover, Governor Josh Stein is encouraging anyone affected by Hurricane Helene to be aware of the upcoming application deadlines for federal support, including for individuals and small businesses.
Today, Governor Josh Stein joined Yancey County Sheriff Shane Hilliard to meet with local officials and North Carolinians impacted by Hurricane Helene damage in Burnsville. He also joined local firefighters to thank them for their heroic work as first responders. 
Today, Governor Stein and emergency officials provided updates on severe weather impacting the state and are urging all North Carolinians to prepare for severe thunderstorms, heavy downpours, isolated tornadoes, and damaging wind gusts. As the storm continues to move eastward throughout the day, North Carolinians should stay tuned to emergency alerts and have a plan to take cover if necessary.
Today, Governor Josh Stein announced the following judicial appointments:Judge Stephen C. Stokes to the Superior Court for Judicial District 14A, serving part of Cumberland County. Stokes is filling the vacancy created after Judge Claire Hill retired.

First Lady Anna Stein read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff at Brunson Elementary in Winston-Salem, which she attended. Meanwhile, Governor Stein visited Belville Elementary School in Brunswick County to celebrate National Read Across America Week and proclaim March as Reading Month in North Carolina.
