Today, Governor Josh Stein announced the appointment of Thomas Anglim as District Attorney for Prosecutorial District Two, which covers Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrell, and Washington counties. Anglim is replacing Seth H. Edwards, who was elected Superior Court judge.“Tom currently serves as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in District Two, and he brings decades of prosecutorial experience to the role,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I am grateful for his willingness to continue serving the people of our state and his district as District Attorney.”
Today, Governor Josh Stein signed five executive orders to bring much-needed relief to people in western North Carolina, including accelerating temporary housing and the repair of private roads and bridges.Right now, with tens of thousands of houses damaged or destroyed, more than 12,000 western North Carolinians are without safe housing, and an estimated 8,000 private roads and bridges need to be repaired or replaced to reinstate access to emergency services, school buses, and other transportation.
Today in the Old Senate Chambers at the historic Capitol in downtown Raleigh, Josh Stein took the oath of office to become North Carolina’s 76th Governor. Joined by his wife Anna and family, Stein swore to support the Constitution and laws of the United States and North Carolina and to faithfully perform the duties of the office of governor.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper commuted the sentences of two people in North Carolina prisons and granted pardons of forgiveness to two others. The clemency actions followed thorough review by the Office of Executive Clemency, the Office of General Counsel and the Governor.“Ensuring careful review of petitions for clemency is a responsibility I take seriously,” said Governor Cooper. “Each of these individuals is deserving of clemency as we continue our important work to protect our communities and improve the fairness of our criminal justice system.”
