The Governor celebrated the six recipients of the state’s highest civilian honor and recognized eight Helene Heroes. Today Governor Josh Stein will join the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources at the historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville for the 2025 North Carolina Awards. In addition to celebrating six North Carolina Award recipients, the Governor will recognize eight Helene Heroes. Proceeds from this year's North Carolina Awards will go to benefit Hurricane Helene relief. So far, nearly $200,000 have been raised to support Hurricane Helene recovery efforts through the North Carolina Community Foundation.
Today, in advance of the North Carolina Awards, Governor Josh Stein volunteered at MANNA FoodBank in Asheville. During his visit, Governor Stein presented a $585,000 check from the State of North Carolina, part of his ongoing initiative to surge public and private donations to food banks. While the government shutdown had prevented NCDHHS from distributing full benefits, new guidance received today from the USDA has enabled NCDHHS to load full benefits onto recipients’ cards tomorrow morning.
