Two television/streaming series and an independent feature-length film have been approved for North Carolina Film and Entertainment Grants. The productions, estimated to be creating more than 4,900 jobs in total, are expected to spend more than $113 million during their production windows, supporting North Carolina film crew professionals and small businesses servicing the productions across much of the state.
Today Governor Josh Stein announced that he has appointed Alicia Marks Flowers to the Superior Court for Judicial District 14B, serving part of Cumberland County. Flowers is filling the vacancy created after the Honorable Gail Adams retired.
Governor Josh Stein announced this week that more than $7 million in economic development grants benefiting 15 North Carolina counties has been awarded by the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission (SCRC). The grants will support job creation and retention, investments in critical infrastructure that fuel economic growth, and strengthened workforce development pipelines through targeted training and education.
Today Governor Josh Stein joined state and local officials and life sciences partners to break ground on Novartis’ expanded pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in the Research Triangle. The expansion, part of a $771 million investment in Durham and Wake counties, will support more than 700 new jobs and expand Novartis’ capacity to manufacture life-saving medicine.
Governor Josh Stein today announced $270 million in awards to repair and strengthen the resilience of water systems in areas affected by Hurricane Helene. The awards from the NC Department of Environmental Quality will fund 58 water, wastewater and septic system projects in 26 western North Carolina counties. North Carolina is the first state affected by Hurricane Helene to make awards provided through the 2025 State Revolving Fund Supplemental Appropriations for Hurricanes Helene and Milton and the Hawai’i Wildfires.
A report issued this week by Governor Stein’s Advisory Council for Student Safety & Well-Being formed in April 2025 relates early success stories from public school districts that have implemented policies to make classrooms cell phone-free.
Today Governor Stein is directing the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to restore Medicaid reimbursement rates to September 30, 2025, levels. The legislature’s failure to fully fund Medicaid forced cuts to the program in October, and the months-long budget stalemate between the legislative chambers has resulted in a wave of litigation against the state. Recent court orders have now made it untenable to continue with rate reductions.
Today Governor Josh Stein joined Pennsylvania Transformer Technology, LLC (PTT) leaders, state and local officials, and clean energy partners to break ground on the company’s expanded manufacturing facilities in Raeford. The domestic manufacturer of power and distribution transformers will invest more than $102.5 million and bring 217 more jobs to Hoke County.
