Today Governor Stein pardoned two turkeys, Krispy and Kreme, from the Thanksgiving table during the annual Turkey Pardon Ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion. The Governor was joined by Tim Thomas, President of the North Carolina Poultry Federation, and partners from Butterball. During the event, Butterball announced it would donate 1,500 turkey breasts to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
Governor Josh Stein has proclaimed October Cybersecurity Awareness Month in North Carolina and is encouraging all North Carolinians to prioritize online safety and protect themselves from online threats and scams.

Today Governor Josh Stein inducted 10 North Carolinians into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for their contributions to the state. “These North Carolinians represent the best our state has to offer through their lifetimes of service,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I am proud to honor them for their contributions and willingness to help their neighbors.”The Order of the Long Leaf Pine honorees are as follows:
Today, Governor Josh Stein inducted nine North Carolinians into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for their contributions to our state. “I am proud to honor this group of outstanding North Carolinians who have made important contributions to our state and its people,” said Governor Stein. “They exemplify the best of North Carolina through their storied careers in government, education, and advocacy.”
Last week Governor Josh Stein presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine to 104-year-old Joe Balogh, a pilot and WWII veteran, for his exceptional service to his country. May is Military Appreciation Month, and Governor Stein was proud to mark the occasion with Major Balogh.  
Today Governor Josh Stein released the following statement in commemoration of Memorial Day:
Earlier this month, 20 people and two organizations representing 21 counties received the State of North Carolina’s highest award for volunteer service: the Governor’s Medallion Award. The award is presented annually by the N.C. Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service, or VolunteerNC.
Today Governor Josh Stein proclaimed May 4-10 as State Employee Recognition Week and Wednesday May 7 as State Employee Appreciation Day.  “One of the many reasons North Carolina is a great place to live is the state employees who dedicate their lives to service to our people,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I am grateful for their commitment to making our state safer and stronger.”    
Today, Governor Josh Stein inducted eight North Carolinians into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for their lifelong careers in public service. He also presented the Laurel Wreath to two North Carolinians who have made outstanding contributions to sports or athletics. “North Carolina is full of outstanding individuals who have contributed to our state through careers in government, law, business, philanthropy, and sports,” said Governor Josh Stein. “This group exemplifies the best of our state, and I am pleased to honor them today.”
