The federal government has granted Governor Roy Cooper’s request for a federal disaster declaration for North Carolina in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian’s impact on the state.
With powerful and dangerous winds, rains, and flooding anticipated from Hurricane Dorian, Governor Roy Cooper today issued a mandatory state evacuation order for vulnerable coastal areas. The evacuation order, effective at 8 am on Wednesday, September 4, applies to barrier islands along the entire coast, from the Virginia line to the South Carolina line.
