Today Governor Josh Stein announced Vulcan Elements Inc., a manufacturer of rare earth magnets, will invest $918.1 million in the town of Benson to expand its magnet production capacity and establish the largest magnet factory in the world outside of China. The company will add 1,000 new jobs to Johnston County.
Today, Governor Josh Stein announced that global integrated logistics company Maersk has selected Charlotte for its official North American headquarters. Maersk will add 520 jobs to its current Charlotte-based workforce over the next several years, ultimately bringing its Charlotte workforce to more than 1,300. Governor Josh Stein has directed the Governor’s Council on Workforce and Apprenticeships to make recommendations to effectively implement the newly created Workforce Pell grants to help North Carolina students take advantage of additional career training opportunities. This week, Governor Josh Stein led a 51-person delegation to the Southeast United States (SEUS)/Japan Annual Joint Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, reaffirming North Carolina’s strong partnership with Japan and furthering the work to recruit more good-paying jobs to the state. North Carolina was the host southeastern state for the past two years. The delegation included Department of Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley, EDPNC CEO Christopher Chung, and North Carolina business leaders.
