Today Governor Stein shared guidance and developments on the state’s response to the winter storm impacting North Carolina.  “Today is bringing snowfall across our state,” said Governor Josh Stein. “Our transportation, public safety, and emergency management teams are positioned and working to keep people safe, and I’m grateful for their continued efforts. Across North Carolina, communities are marking America 250, or A250, by lifting up the ideals and the people who have shaped our democracy. This milestone provides us the chance to reflect on our nation’s history and inspires us to shape its path forward.  
North Carolina remains one of the fastest-growing states in the country, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau estimates released this week. Despite a nationwide slowdown in population growth last year, North Carolina grew by nearly 150,000 people, making it the state with third-largest total population increase after Texas and Florida. North Carolina was also ranked the No. 1 state for domestic (state-to-state) migration. North Carolina’s population was 11.2 million as of July 1, 2025, according to the Census Bureau.
Today Governor Stein held a briefing to provide updates and guidance as another winter storm approaches North Carolina. The Governor was joined by NC Department of Public Safety Secretary Jeff Smythe, NC Department of Transportation Secretary Daniel Johnson, NC Emergency Management Director Will Ray, NC State Highway Patrol Colonel Freddy Johnson, and Major General Todd Hunt of the North Carolina National Guard.
Today in Enfield, Governor Stein visited the US 301 Industrial Site and highlighted North Carolina’s efforts to prepare industrial sites for development through the Selectsite Readiness Program. For its efforts across the state, North Carolina was just named the 2025 State of the Year by Business Facilities Magazine.
Today Governor Stein thanked NCDOT crews who have been working hard to clear the roads and keep North Carolinians safe. The Governor also issued a new State of Emergency to ensure the state qualifies if federal assistance is needed to respond or recover from this winter weather event and to activate the State Emergency Response Team ahead of the storm’s arrival on Saturday morning. The State Emergency Response Team assists affected communities with any response needs.
Today Governor Josh Stein joined North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley and local partners to unveil the state’s 2026 schedule of premier events supported by the Major Events, Games, and Attractions Fund. The lineup features crowd-pleasers that create jobs, support local businesses, boost tourism, and reinforce the reasons North Carolina consistently ranks as a top state for business, workforce development, and travel.
Today Governor Josh Stein visited RHA Health Services’ Alamance County Behavioral Health Center in Burlington to host a roundtable discussion with community leaders highlighting the critical role that crisis and mental health services play in keeping North Carolinians healthy and safe. The Alamance Center is a partnership of county, state, and local management entities (LMEs) that supports individuals with developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and other behavioral health needs.
