Governor Josh Stein has extended the State of Emergency for the western North Carolina wildfires in 34 counties. The State of Emergency extension will last for a period of 30 days.

Governor Josh Stein announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved North Carolina’s Action Plan for a $1.4 billion grant to help western North Carolina rebuild following Hurricane Helene. When compared to other states’ performance over the past decade, North Carolina submitted its Helene Action Plan to HUD in the shortest amount of time following a major hurricane.
Governor Stein today appealed to President Trump, asking him to overturn FEMA’s decision not to extend its 100 percent match for eligible Helene costs.
Today, Governor Josh Stein inducted eight North Carolinians into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for their lifelong careers in public service. Today, Governor Josh Stein announced that the state is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of John Boone, age 49. The state also is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Jakaylen Chambers, age 14.On January 26, 2022, John Boone was discovered dead from a gunshot wound near the intersection of Lakewood Drive and Futrelle Drive in High Point. Mr. Boone was deaf and non-verbal.
Today, Governor Josh Stein, North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) Secretary Pam Cashwell, and North Carolina Department of Enviornmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Reid Wilson celebrated Earth Day at Eno River State Park in Durham. Governor Stein toured the park with Eno River Superintendent Kimberly Radewicz and spoke with park rangers to learn about the park’s economic and cultural impact.

On January 25, 2013, Nancy Grubert-Harvey was found deceased at the Atlanta Car Company located at 1896 Old US Highway 52 in Lexington.
Today, Governor Josh Stein announced that the state is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the location and arrest of the suspect Bryan Tyronne Montreal Goodwin, age 31, for the murder of Jaquin Kymane Bethea, Jr., age 33.On Aug. 6, 2024, the body of Jaquin Kymane Bethea was found in an abandoned residence on Ridge Road in the Supply area of Brunswick County. Bethea had been shot twice and investigators located multiple shell casings at the scene. Investigators have identified Bryan Tyronne Montreal Goodwin as a suspect.
Today, Governor Josh Stein, Attorney General Jeff Jackson, North Carolina Department of Public Safety Secretary Eddie Buffaloe, and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai joined advocates and law enforcement officers at the SAFEChild Advocacy Center to raise awareness of the ongoing tragedy of child abuse and neglect. They also highlighted April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and April 28 as Children’s Advocacy Center Day.
