In 2025, the Stein administration:

Created Economic Opportunity

  • Announced 34,000 new jobs and secured $23 billion in project investments from a wide variety of companies
  • Awarded $55 million to nearly 2,200 small businesses and signed legislation delivering $478 million to western North Carolina farmers rebuilding after Hurricane Helene
  • Invested in television and film productions estimated to support more than 3,800 jobs and stimulate local economies
  • Launched JoinNC, a digital tool to recruit displaced workers into public service jobs in North Carolina
  • Secured nearly $4.5 million in grants and awarded $3.5 million in grants to support various programs, including apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing, health care, and child care
  • Proposed cutting up to half a billion dollars in taxes for families with a Child Tax Credit, Child and Dependent Care Tax Cut, and Working Families Tax Cut
  • Directed more than $100 million toward building new homes, rehabilitating old homes, and strengthening downtowns across rural North Carolina

Strengthened Our Workforce

  • Registered more than 4,000 North Carolinians apprenticeship programs
  • Signed legislation making it easier for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and behavioral health professionals to practice in North Carolina
  • Established the Governor’s Council on Workforce and Apprenticeships, which is connecting public schools, community colleges, employers, and more around a shared goal of offering North Carolinians good jobs with good wages that can support a family
  • Established the Governor’s Teacher Advisory Council to support the North Carolina teaching workforce
  • Established the North Carolina Task Force on Child Care and Early Education to expand access to high-quality child care, lower child care costs for families, and strengthen the early childhood education workforce
  • Partnered with 16 North Carolina institutions of higher learning to establish “Child Care Academies” that get people into the child care workforce faster – a task force recommendation

Improved Infrastructure

  • Awarded nearly $250 million in broadband grants to get nearly 70,000 North Carolinians connected to jobs and services
  • Awarded 51 rural infrastructure grants and more than $26 million to energize rural economies, allowing local governments to enhance local infrastructure and repurpose vacant buildings for new businesses
  • Announced nearly $900 million to improve drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, address PFAS and other forever chemicals, identify and replace lead pipes, and improve resiliency to future storms
  • Awarded $2.8 billion for transportation infrastructure like roads and bridges
  • Established the North Carolina Energy Policy Task Force to strengthen our state’s electricity infrastructure and promote energy affordability
